Largest contract in transtec history

The company has won a Linux cluster contract from the University of Karlsruhe worth around two million euros which is ranked in the top 500 super computer list

November 14, 2007 – transtec AG has received the most lucrative contract in its history from the University of Karlsruhe: the hardware and solution supplier from Tuebingen is to install a high-performance Linux cluster in Karlsruhe. With more than 1,600 compute cores and a Lustre high-speed storage system with approx. 750 Terabyte capacity, this complete solution is worth around two million euros. It is ranked 104 in the recently published worldwide top 500 list with a Linpack performance of 12.6 Teraflops.

The cluster will be used by different institutes from the University who in part helped to finance the project and by research groups from the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT).

The cluster handles a wide range of applications including experimental nuclear physics and the optimisation of shared data storage and total production site simulation.

The current list of the 500 fastest super computers was presented on 12.11.2007 at the “SC07” conference in the American city of Reno (Nevada). TOP500 is the organisation responsible for the compilation of the list published twice a year and is represented by the Universities of Mannheim and Tennessee as well as the National Energy Research Scientific Com-puting Centre.

The list can be viewed at www.top500.org.
